How to choose the right size of dog toy
Match the toy to your dog's mouth and play style, and what to look for in a rope, ball or plush toy.
Start with your dog's size, not their age
A toy should be big enough that your dog cannot swallow it or lodge it at the back of the mouth, and small enough to carry comfortably. As a simple check, a ball should be larger than the width of your dog's open mouth.
Our rope toys, balls and plush toys come in Small and Large. Choose Small for puppies and small dogs, and Large for medium and large dogs.
Think about how your dog plays
Fetchers like a ball that bounces and is easy to pick up. Tuggers like a rope or tug toy with firm knots. Gentle carriers do well with plush toys.
If your dog likes to chew, choose a chew toy made for that, and keep play supervised.
Supervise and replace
Stay close during play and put toys away afterwards. Throw away any toy that is torn, shredded or has loose parts.
