Simple habits that keep dogs and cats calm and safe through the festivities.
Dhak, speakers, crackers and crowds can frighten pets. Keep them in a quiet, familiar room with water, a bed and a closed window. Don't take nervous pets to pandals. Ask a veterinarian if your pet struggles with noise.
Keep diyas, candles, incense and camphor out of reach. Never leave a pet alone with an open flame.
Do not feed mithai, chocolate, dry fruits or prasad. Sweets can make pets unwell. Stick to your pet's usual food.
Don't let pets chew garlands, flowers, ribbons, foil or small decorations. They can cause choking or stomach upset.
Keep it short and supervised. Place a bandana over the collar rather than tying it tight, and remove it if your pet is uncomfortable, hot or trying to chew it.
Make sure your pet wears a collar and ID tag. Festive crowds and noise are when pets bolt.
